Blames U.S. for Internet Slowness
Cubasi.cu, Oct 12, 09.- Cuba blamed United States for Internet
“slowness” on the Island and that local cybernauts aren’t
able to access a vast number of blocked websites”.
Francisco Hartmamm, strategy director of the Informatization Office
of Cuba, cited by Prensa Latina news agency, said that Washington’s
“hostility is responsible for “a slow Internet for Cubans”.
“The famous freedom on the web and that everything is open
is at least a joke when it deals with Cuba”, Hartmamm said.
Cuban addresses, ending in .cu, "do not have right to access
the services that a large number of web pages offer”, he said.
Cuban authorities contend that the Island “cannot get connected
to the network at the speed it wishes, because it can only do it
to a cheap and slow satelite connection”, acording to the
official.
Recently, the Raul Castro government approved facilities for new
Internet rooms throughout the country, without stopping to give
priority to the “social and collective” use of that
service.
Although most Cubans cannot get home access to the network of networks,
provided by state-run enterprises, it is open at hotels and other
facilities.
