Arab
Ambassadors Defend Food Aid for Haiti
Cairo, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) Two Arab artists demanded from the
World Food Program (WFP) 279 million dollars to aid the two million
survivors of the earthquake that hit Haiti las week.
Egyptian actor Mahmoud Yassin and beautiful actress Hend Sabry,
declared ambassadors against hunger by the WFP, taped a film message
demanding joint efforts in the world over the need of funds to help
the Haitians.
In the video, Tunisian Sabry calls on public opinion to urgently
contribute to the UN agency to guarantee food rations for the survivors.
"Haiti needs food. Donate to the World Food Program,"
says part of the tape made by the two stars for the public of the
Middle East while expressing their hope to obtain logistic support
for humanitarian operations in the next six months.
The agency in charge of food aid in the world began distribution
of food 24 hours after the quake hit on January 12 and offered more
than 1.5 million rations, equivalent to five million meals in Port
au Prince and surrounding areas.
Sabry and Yassin were pleased to use their voices in support of
the hundred thousands Haitians and, above all, call attention of
the Arab world about the tragedy in that Caribbean nation,"
from afar."
